Case Accelerator for Student Entrepreneurship
Academy Courses

Businesses, Organizations, and Society

Founded in 2004 by Punahou Trustee Mark Fukunaga ’74 and businessman Brian Barbata, the class offers students real-world business insights from seasoned professionals. Since its inception, more than 200 students have taken the class, many of whom have ventured off into the business world. BOS is not a typical introductory course that only touches upon business fundamentals. Rather, it’s a big-picture course that teaches strategy and leadership and how
businesses operate and compete.
Taught primarily by volunteer teachers who are professionals active in the business community, this course is a unique opportunity for students to engage with Hawai‘i’s leaders. The final project gives students the chance to act as an outside consultant to a publicly traded company of their choice. Students spend the semester researching the company and formulating recommendations, culminating in a final presentation with strategic recommendations for the company.

While the BOS course pre-dates the Case Accelerator for Student Entrepreneurship, in recent years the director of the Case Accelerator for Student Entrepreneurship has been the faculty sponsor for this nondepartmental course.
