Aloha,
I hope this letter finds you and your ohana safe, healthy, and joyful.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the chapters of the Punahou Alumni Association (PAA), it fills my heart with gratitude and appreciation to extend a warm aloha to all of our 30,000+ alumni members around the world. I marvel in the strength of our alumni community, and encourage you to join us on our mat that seats many, under our hala tree at Punahou.
Throughout the year, PAA and our eight chapters will host a variety of in-person and virtual events in Hawai‘i and across the world. From regional gatherings, Dinner in the Buff (’n Blue) and professional events, this year promises to be an exciting time to participate with the Punahou alumni community. Bingo nights, community service projects and our wildly popular golf tournament provide activities for alumni in all age groups! This past year, our newly imagined Trivia Night event brought an evening of fun competition for all. Who could have imagined such a competitive group?
To ensure that you don’t miss any of the excitement and joyful encounters, we need to be able to reach you. Please log onto Ka ‘Ohana Punahou to make sure your personal information is current and updated. Take a few moments to explore and appreciate everything this database has to offer. You’ll be able to find classmates, take a stroll down strawberry shortcake lane, and learn something new about the magical place we still call home. I promise you, a visit to Ka ‘Ohana Punahou whether you’re on O‘ahu or anywhere in the world, will be time well spent.
To our newest members from the Class of 2024, welcome, and congratulations on your achievements. We encourage you to chase your dreams, discover your passions and serve your world. It’s never too early to start participating in alumni events, and we celebrate your arrival to our community under the hala tree.
To the 0s and 5s, I look forward to connecting with all of you in June during your alumni reunion. Whether this is your 10th Reunion, 75th, or somewhere in between, Alumni Week and Alumni Lū‘au are excellent opportunities to reconnect. We’ll be able to create new memories on campus as we remember canteens, lily pads, carnivals and caramel cuts. I encourage you to take a moment during the celebrations to appreciate the many ways your experiences at Punahou have added to your life.
I also encourage you to get involved with a regional chapter, if there is one in your area, participate in an event and share your time shoulder to shoulder with your fellow alumni. There is always a reason to smile under the hala tree. Come and join us!
With joyful gratitude,
Buff and blue forever,
Colleen Maeda ’85 Bird
PAA President 2024 – 2025
