Climate Action Report

Punahou School has long embraced its kuleana to the environment and to the future of our planet. From the time when our 76-acre campus was home to a working farm to the present, our deep connection to our island home has been integral to our mission. Today, as we face the pressing challenges and opportunities brought forth by climate change, our commitment to this work guides both our educational approach and our campuswide operations. As an institution grounded in Hawai‘i’s unique sense of place, we recognize our kuleana to care for the land and people of Hawai‘i, and to be a leader in addressing the global climate crisis.
Our goal is ambitious yet achievable: to ensure that every member of our campus community – students, faculty and staff – engages with the challenges and opportunities of climate and environmental change as a core value and a vital responsibility. We are working to create an environment where all are equipped to learn about climate change, reduce our impact, and take meaningful action toward a more sustainable future. We also recognize that the future will present opportunities for great creativity and innovation in science, technology, economics, and public policy, and we aim to prepare our students to work at the forefront of those trends. Whether through our academic programs, our environmental stewardship efforts on campus, or our partnerships with local and global organizations, we are committed to these objectives.

This work can be seen across all dimensions of our school community – from our curriculum to our operations. From the hands-on work our students are doing in laboratories and gardens across our campus, to the way our faculty and staff have embedded environmental stewardship into their daily lives, we aim to harness the power of a collective effort. Together, we can contribute to real and lasting change, creating a more promising future not only for Hawai‘i, but for the wider world.

We are excited to share Punahou’s Climate Action Report 2025 with our community. This comprehensive review offers valuable insights into our guiding principles, operational goals and the leadership opportunities around sustainability.
