Wanda Au '51 Miura "WAM"

Affectionately known by her family and friends as "WAM," she was a "Kalihi" girl who after attending St. Anthony's Catholic School, entered Punahou in the 9th grade and was an alumna of the class of 1951. During her time at Punahou, she was truly a buff 'n blue gal who was very involved with campus activities which included being a member of the aquacade.
She continued her education at Colorado Women's College and then returned home to begin her teaching career where she gave 30 years to the Department of Education (DOE) at August Ahrens and Kalihi Kai Elementary Schools. She was intelligent, energetic, outgoing, athletic, and friendly and enjoyed many Sundays with the golfing groups "The Bay View Dames" and "The Hawaiian Girls."

WAM loved Punahou School and the community so much for all of the opportunities and relationships they provided for her and the three generations of her family that have attended Punahou over the years, including herself, her daughters Bonnie '73 and Heather '74, and her grandsons Taylor '09 and Scotty '11. Some of her fondest memories include dropping off sweetbread and talking story with the security guards, attending the Variety Show EVERY year, cheering on her grandsons at Punahou Football games, and being the Hawaiian Plate ticket collector at the Alumni Luau.

Started by her family, the WAM Scholarship has been created in memory of Wanda who passed away on April 18, 2019 at the age of 86. The scholarship will be used to support students just like her who are making a transition from an outside school to attend Punahou so they too can truly live the Punahou experience.
