Kevin ’71 and Lannice Chang
This endowed scholarship was established by Kevin ’71 and Lannice Chang.
Kevin began attending Punahou in the eighth grade. In January 2019, he retired after serving 25 years as a Judge in the State Court and Federal Court. Kevin’s first exposure to the law was in his junior year, in the Law and Modern Society class taught by Carroll Taylor.
Lannice grew up on Kauai and graduated from Waimea High School. After retiring in October 2017, she volunteered for three years with a class of first graders at Ma‘ema‘e Elementary School. In each of those years, Lannice arranged for all of the Ma‘ema‘e Elementary School first graders to take an excursion to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawai‘i, where they met and learned from Deputy Marshals, U.S. Pretrial Services Officers, Deputy Federal Public Defenders, Assistant United States Attorneys and Judge Chang.
Kevin and Lannice appreciate the scope and breadth of a Punahou education and the academic, cultural and social opportunities which Punahou provides to children of diverse backgrounds. As a result, they have endowed a scholarship which supports students at Punahou School, with a preference for students from Ma‘ema‘e Elementary School and, if there are no students from Ma‘ema‘e Elementary School, then students from Hawai‘i public school.
