Lucky to be at School

With all the new pandemic protocols, it was definitely different last year. Everyone was trying to make sure everyone was safe, so we had to adapt to what was happening and make it as normal as possible. We were so lucky to be in school, even though we only got to see our classmates.

You’d think it would be sad to not see all of your friends, or see kids in other classes, but it wasn’t. I got to really bond with the people in my class, which I didn’t expect. In a normal school year, there are so many kids and you just want to meet everyone. Instead, we really got close with those 23 students in the class together. You got to know who they were, and you got to see how great they were. I think now I’ll always tell kids: “Get to know people in your class. They can be so cool.”

“I know that the people who graduated from Punahou a while ago gave donations, and they didn't have to do that, but they did. I just want to say, “thank you,” because we couldn’t have done this year without you.”

We still got to do some of the things that were key to having a normal school life, like art, and physical education, and getting to do music, but in a safer way. It felt different, but we were so grateful that we could still do all of it.

I know that the people who graduated from Punahou a while ago gave donations, and they didn't have to do that, but they did. I just want to say, “thank you,” because we couldn’t have done this year without you.
