Abe-Araki
The fund was established to honor the memory of Masaru and Kikue Araki and Shigeru and Louise Abe. From their humble beginnings, these families established successful businesses in Haleʻiwa in the 1930s (Araki) and the 1940s (Abe).
The Arakis ran the town’s general store and delivery service. The Abes ran the gas station and car repair shop. Both families believed in education and the opportunities it could offer.
Today, the Abe-Araki family believe that, with Punahou’s stewardship of the fund, more opportunities can become a reality for other families in the future and continue the families’ legacy.
