H. Maybelle Steward Endowed Financial Aid Fund
This endowed financial aid fund was established by Dr. John Corboy ’56 in honor of beloved music and Hawaiiana teacher, H. Maybelle Steward, who taught at Punahou from 1940 to 1975.
Maybelle Steward is remembered for teaching Hawaiian music and culture, and her students learned Hawaiian language, to play the ipu (gourds), pu‘ili (bamboo), and ‘ili‘ili (stones), build grass shacks, how to pound poi, string lei and tie fishnets. The Steward Fund shall provide support for students at Punahou in kindergarten – grade 12, who qualify for financial aid, with a preference for students who have an interest in music or Hawaiian studies.
