At Punahou, our campus was thoughtfully designed to create smaller, intimate communities within our large campus community. 
Discover how our campus design and physical spaces were intentionally created to group students of similar ages together in a setting where they can learn, play, explore and socialize together.

Omidyar K – 1 Neighborhood

Located in the mauka, uppermost area of our campus, Omidyar K – 1 Neighborhood provides a quiet, safe and secure environment for our youngest learners. Kindergarten and first grade in the Omidyar K – 1 Neighborhood is a two-year experience. Each of six kindergarten classrooms adjoins a neighboring first grade class. As kindergartners learn and grow with their two classroom teachers, they become familiar with the first grade teachers and the classroom next door, where they will move as a class the following year.
Omidyar Neighborhood serves 300 students across kindergarten and first grade. Facility highlights include:
  • 12 classrooms, each with a 350 square-foot lanai.
  • Large gathering space (Community Room) for a range of multi-class activities.
  • Outdoor amphitheater.
  • P. E. Pavilion and outdoor learning and play areas.
  • Creative Learning Center located in Wilcox Hall with spaces for art and music, as well as housing administration, offices and a health room.

Grades 2 – 5

Kosasa Community is a physical representation of Punahou’s educational philosophy for the 21st-century. It is teacher-inspired, student-centered and research-driven, and built to the highest levels of green building and design. The School’s newest learning environment enhances children’s curiosity and play, while grounding them in an intimate, nurturing environment.
Kosasa Community serves approximately 700 students across grades 2 – 5. Facility highlights include:
  • Seven two-story classroom studios with 28 new classrooms overall. Each studio classroom has its own lanai, and each floor contains two classrooms that can be unified via moveable partitions and a shared breakout room.
  • Home to the Junior School Learning Commons for Kindergarten – grade 8 students. This includes technology/media facilities, design and fabrication spaces, administrative, instructional and conference rooms, flexible creative, social gathering and outdoor areas, and traditional reading and research spaces.
  • The Patrick H. Quilter Lab For Creative Arts is a 10,000-square-foot visual and performing arts building housing an array of spaces – including music and art classrooms, a covered lanai for outdoor work, a ceramics kiln and an exhibit area.

Case Middle School for Grades 6 – 8

In middle school, students are each placed on a four-teacher team for their core (English, math, science, social studies) classes, one of whom serves as a child’s homeroom teacher. Case Middle School is made up of 9 unique buildings, as noted below:
  • Sixth grade: Weinberg Hall and Wodehouse Hall.
  • Seventh grade: Higgins Hall and Yamane Family Hall.
  • Eighth grade: Leong Hall and Miyawaki Family Hall.
  • Twigg-Smith Pavilion is a shared space offering a gathering place for students from across the Junior School for performances, talks and various other activities.
  • Kuaihelani Learning Center serves as the campus center for Hawaiian Studies, serving students in grades K – 12.
  • Gates Learning Center is a shared space sometimes used for Robotics, as well as additional faculty office space.

Academy for Grades 9 – 12

Our learning environment for grades 9 – 12 is known as the Academy, and is located on the lower part of campus, closest to Wilder Avenue. Most Academy classes are held in the buildings surrounding the area affectionately known as the “Academy Quad.” This open, grassy area provides ample space for outdoor class activities, events, and plenty of options for students to study, play or relax with friends. We invite you to learn more about the Academy and the many different buildings and facilities available to our students.
