Grades 9 – 12

Grades 9 – 12 Applicants

As we prepare our Academy (Grades 9 – 12) students to be lifelong learners, we challenge them to critically think about the world before them, and develop solutions that will have a positive impact on our community and society. Through a vast array of classes, programs, co-curricular options and Centers, students design their own unique experience and Punahou journey that encourages them to become the next generation of community leaders and global change makers.

  • Step 1: Application due by November 1

Application Eligibility: Applicants should apply to the next successive grade. For example, if your child is currently in Grade 8, your child will be applying for Grade 9. Applications should be submitted as early as possible, but no later than November 1. After we review your child’s application, we will assign a checklist to your online myPunahou account.
  • Step 2: Teacher References

Starting October 15, send the Teacher Reference Form to your child’s current Math and English teachers. The teachers’ email addresses are needed for this action. All teacher reports need to be received directly from the applicant’s teachers no later than December 31. Being mindful of the teachers' time, we recommend notifying your teachers in October.
  • Step 3: SSAT

Grades 9 – 11: Register your child to take both the SSAT AND Character Skills Snapshot. Register for both assessments at the same time at a discount. SSAT results must be shared with Punahou School by December 31. To inquire about a need-based fee waiver, contact the Punahou Financial Aid Office before registering.

Grade 12: Results of either the SAT, PSAT, or SSAT are due by December 31. The Character Skills Snapshot is also required, and the price is discounted if registered at the same time with the SSAT. To inquire about a need-based fee waiver, contact the Punahou Financial Aid Office before registering.
  • Step 4: Interview

Your child will be scheduled for an on campus, in-person Saturday Session (interview and writing), and you will receive an email with the date and time of the appointment. Appointments are limited. Please contact us if your child cannot attend an on-campus appointment.
  • Step 5: Report Cards

Upload a copy of the current school year’s first report card as soon as available. This will be your child’s first quarter or first trimester report. If your child receives quarterly or semester report cards, please upload a copy of the second quarter or first semester report as soon as available.
Grades 10 – 12: Transcripts are required and should cover school credits earned for the current first semester and any previous high school years, and should include the current second semester courses.
