Nathaniel "Nat" Saltonstall '46

Saltonstall has continually given back to Punahou despite the many miles between the School and his home in Maine. A driving force of the 2011 reunion gift for the Class of 1946, he actively participated in every committee meeting by phone from wherever he was. Saltonstall started a matching pledge challenge for his Class Endowed Scholarship, which shows his gratitude for an education that made a lasting impression. "The teachers whom I had daily association with were great instructors, as well as compassionate people, who sought to bring out the best of the students. I learned a great deal from them ..." he said.

A consistent annual donor since 1969 and a leadership donor to Case Middle School, Saltonstall believes, "that supporting education at the lower levels is more critical than major giving at the college level."

Saltonstall and his wife, Betsy Sibley, also give back through their Boston-based Sibley-Saltonstall Charitable Foundation; Punahou is one of the foundation's recipients. Over the years, they have volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Sarasota, Florida; fought against overfishing on behalf of the Florida Conservation Association; and helped at their local food banks, soup kitchens and church functions.

Saltonstall looks forward to reuniting with classmates this June: "I am a proud and thankful alumnus who will maintain as active a role as my age and health will allow."
